Or at least it was, until Gin and his sisters somehow changed the future! Now the prime minister is some old guy with glasses and all the signs are written in indecipherable kanji! This is bad! My Little Sister Can Read Kanji Volume 2 edition by Takashi Kajii Halki Minamura Sam Pinansky Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This volume of SisKan continues our story where we left off, Gin Imose, his sister Kuroha, lil sis Miru, Odaira-sensei, and our lone 21st century character Yuzu traveling back to Yuzu's era to fix what someone undid to change the future from the Moe path (by somehow getting rid of Oniaka, the novel Gin and friends helped create by writing a manuscript that gets discovered). That's enough catch up, onto what makes this volume work.
This volume features a lot less of Gin walking into awkward situations and acting like a doofus. Instead we get more of him and company actually thinking and using their heads to prevent the dystopia. There's one major new addition to the cast, whom you may or may not like for her unfeeling attitude towards her brother, a character that was possibly inspired by Nichijou's Hakase.
Whereas volume 1 seemed to be more about introducing Yuzu, while our cover character Kuroha was more of a third wheel, here Yuzu features on the cover but she's much more of an afterthought than Kuroha, Gin's non-blood related sister getting a lot more development in terms of back story and modern story. The highlight of the volume is easily getting to see the Imose's childhood.
Again, the plot isn't maybe going to capture you if you don't like Moe based comedy I think, but there are once again good messages here. Stuff about striving for your dreams, finding acceptance, and appreciating differences in other's cultures. A solid entry that I think was better because it sold me a bit more on Kuroha's personality.
A fun cute RomCom with an unexpected story, that is sure to delight.
